Born in Detroit, Michigan on June 16, 1941, Dozier is most famously known as a member of Holland–Dozier–Holland, the songwriting and production team responsible for much of the Motown sound and numerous hit records by artists such as Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and The Isley Brothers. They produced hits such as Come and Get These Memories, Heatwave, and Quicksand.

Dozier was the owner of Hot Wax Records and produced chart-topping hits for artists such as Honey Cone, Freda Payne, Chairmen of the Board, and 100 Proof Aged in Soul. He was also the founder and the owner of Invictus Records, along with the Holland brothers.
